TALLULAH FALLS - In the first few weeks of the 2025 season, because of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances, Gainesville softball's schedule was in flux. Some games were cancelled outright due to calendar constraints, others rescheduled due to calendar flexibility.
On Monday night, the Red Elephants took advantage of an opportunity presented from the latter, and in doing so, matched a mark unseen for nearly a decade.
Led by senior Finley O'Callaghan's five-RBI night, Gainesville (9-6) earned its fourth mercy-rule win in five games beating Tallulah Falls 21-2 (3 inn.).
The win, Big Red's ninth of 2025, gives this team the most the program's experienced in a season since a 9-15 finish in 2016.
Junior Maya Silva picked up a ninth win as well, helping her own cause offensively as she and Judea Hawks each had two hits with two RBI and two runs scored. Silva's two hits were a double and a triple while Hawks had a single and a double.
Mayleigh Gonzalez was a perfect 3-for-3 with two singles, a double and an RBI. Mariam Trocheck had two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. And Shya Barnett and Je'nae Garrett each had a hit with Barnett recording two RBIs and Garrett four.
Gainesville returns to action and region play Tuesday as it hosts Johns Creek; 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
