The Gainesville High School boys basketball team capped off a dominant 2024-2025 regular season campaign by capturing the Region 7-5A Tournament championship with a hard fought 59-53 victory over Lanier, delivering a statement win that ignited a packed home crowd and restored championship status to the tradition rich program for the first time in six years.
The Red Elephants controlled the tempo from the opening tip, showcasing the defensive intensity and balanced scoring that defined their season.
Gainesville pulled ahead early and never looked back, securing the title with a confident, wire-to-wire performance.
The championship marked Gainesville’s first region title since 2018 and highlighted the growth of a roster that blended veteran leadership with rising young talent. GHS head coach Charlemagne Gibbons praised his team’s commitment and composure, crediting their chemistry and relentless preparation as the driving force behind their region championship run.
Key contributors rose to the moment, knocking down timely perimeter shots and dominating in the paint to keep Lanier on its heels. Their collective effort defined the final stretch of the game and sealed one of the program’s most meaningful wins in recent memory.
