GAINESVILLE - For the fourth time in the last decade, the Gainesville Red Elephant volleyball program has a new leader.
Christina Lecoeuvre comes to GHS from Buford High School, where for the past four years she led one of the most decorated volleyball programs in state history.
“I am excited about my transition to Gainesville High School,” Lecoeuvre said. “I am incredibly grateful for my time at Buford and the relationships I built, but I look forward to this new opportunity to cultivate connections within the Gainesville community and build upon the strong foundation already in place.”
After playing volleyball in college for Armstrong Atlantic and coaching at Windsor Forest, Lecoeuvre began her tenure in Buford City Schools as middle school volleyball coach and varsity assistant in 2013. She was a part of a Lady Wolves program that won state championships in 2015, 2016, and 2020. In 2021, after taking the helm of the varsity program from Hadli Daniels, she led the Lady Wolves to back-to-back state championships in her first two seasons.
“In her time at Buford, Christina (Lecoeuvre) proved that she could not only create and cultivate individual talent, but bring that talent together for the ultimate high school athletic achievement,” said Gainesville Athletic Director Adam Lindsey. “We are thrilled she’s a Red Elephant now.”
Lecoeuvre went 122-29 as head coach at Buford, leading Lady Wolves volleyball to four region championships, a state championship each in Class 6A (2021) and Class 7A (2022), and a national ranking as high as 10.
“With the resources and support available (in Gainesville City Schools and at GHS), I am eager to bring my experience and leadership to help grow Gainesville volleyball into the powerhouse program I know it can be,” Lecoeuvre said.
Gainesville went 20-15 last year and lost to Pope in the first round of the Class 6A state tournament.
