Gainesville volleyball's season ended to Woodward Academy on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 5A State Volleyball Tournament.

Under first-year head coach Christina Leceouvre the Red Elephants went 21-14, finished second in the Hall County Tournament, and made it back-to-back state playoff berths for the program.

Before falling to Woodward, the champion of Region 4-5A, Big Red wrapped up its season with two big wins: over in-county rival North Hall on senior night and in-region roe Roswell in the first round of the region tournament to secure a trip to state.

On senior night and playing the last regular season game of 2025, Gainesville beat eventual Region 6-3A champion North Hall (27-13), and did so in straight sets (25-20, 27-25, 26-24). Senior and Louisiana-Monroe commit Taylor Reid led the team in kills with 12. Reid's fellow Class of 2026 member Kyndall Butler had eight kills as did Jaylah Mintz. Senior Lily Grace Clay led the way with 17 digs while Prentice McGarvey, who returns for her senior year in the Fall of 2026, had a team-high 28 assists.

The win over Roswell proved a little more difficult. After taking a commanding 2-0 lead, the Red Elephants dropped the third and fourth sets before coming from behind in the fifth and deciding set to not only secure a berth in the region semifinals, but the state tournament.

The final line for the victors read 25-20, 25-22, 17-25, 12-25, 15-9.

Once again Reid led the way as both she and Mintz, a junior, had eight kills; Butler added four. McGarvey had 19 assists for Gainesville.
