GAINESVILLE - Red Elephant wrestling opened its season in the comfort of its own home hosting duals tournaments on back-to-back weekends, both wrestled in the outdoor athletic pavilion located beside the Student Activities Center on the campus of Gainesville High School.
Boys wrestling went 2-2 in the Gainesville Duals, held Nov. 8 with wins over Lassiter and East Coweta. In last weekend's Red Elephant Duals Adrian Canas (pictured) and Emmanuel Isidro went undefeated as the team took sixth place overall with wins over Morrow and Cherokee high schools.
Despite the tournaments being in the duals format, the girls wrestle as individuals and in continuation of what's become the norm for the back-to-back area championship program, they racked up wins.
Seven girls won individual championships at the Gainesville Duals while eight won in the Red Elephant Duals. Winners the first weekend were Natalia Araujo, Roselyn Revolledo-Leon, Shyderia Stephens, Maylin Olguin, Audrianna Le, Arely Sanchez, and Lauren Ramirez. First-place finishers this past weekend included Alicia Rogers, Ashley Morales, Le, Olguin, Alivia Anderson, Ramirez, Gabriela Francisco-Manuel, and Itel Salcido.
Both the girls and boys teams next compete Nov. 25 in the Trojan War held at Coffee County High School.
