Gainesville High School celebrated a landmark moment as 2026 seniors Charlie Gersmehl and Quintin Mansfield officially signed to continue their basketball careers at the Division I level. Gersmehl is headed to Belmont University, while Mansfield will suit up for Troy University.

Both players have been cornerstones of Class 5A's No. 1 ranked Red Elephants’ success in both their run to a region title last season and 9-0 start this season. Their signings mark another proud achievement for one of Georgia’s most respected high school basketball programs.

Reflecting on his recruiting journey, Gersmahl said, “I had a lot of fun. Ultimately I chose Belmont because of the coaching staff and the city.”

Mansfield shared a similar appreciation for the experience, noting, “I loved getting to visit schools and meet new people. The coaching staff at Troy does a great job at player development and made me feel at home.”

When asked how Gainesville’s basketball program has prepared them for the next level, Gersmehl praised the work put in behind the scenes, “The whole coaching staff does a great job getting us in the gym two to three times a day to help us prepare,” he said.

Mansfield echoed Gersmehl's sentiment, adding, “Gainesville practices are a lot like college practices. I think I’m ready.”

Gersmehl will join a Belmont program known for its skill development and winning culture, while Mansfield heads to Troy to compete in the Sun Belt Conference with a coaching staff to which he already feels connected.

With their futures now set, both players will look to lead Gainesville to a strong season before beginning the next chapter of their college basketball careers.
