The Gainesville High School girls basketball team is off to a strong start in Region 7-5A play, opening with back-to-back victories over Chattahoochee and Roswell to take early control of the standings.

Their most recent win came in convincing fashion on Tuesday night, as the Lady Red Elephants used a stifling defensive effort to defeat Roswell 42–29.

Gainesville limited the Hornets to single-digit scoring in two quarters, controlling the pace from start to finish.

Jaucelyn Smith led the way offensively with 13 points, attacking the rim and knocking down timely shots to keep Gainesville in front. Shailyn Jones added 12 points in a steady, efficient performance, while Jaylah Mintz chipped in 7 points to round out the balanced scoring effort.

With the 2–0 region start, Gainesville continues to build momentum as the schedule intensifies, showing the energy and defensive toughness that could make them a contender throughout the season.
