GAINESVILLE - Big Red baseball earned a walk-off win Tuesday night securing its 12th-straight region victory while also taking Game 1 of their regular-season-ending, three-game set against Johns Creek.
After the Gladiators tied the game at three in the top of the last, Dawson Vaughn hit a double off the centerfield fence for the Region 7-5A champion Red Elephants (15-13, 14-2), scoring Chase Kiewert.
Rallying from behind was the tale of the game from the start for Gainesville as the Gladiators took a one-run lead in the first. Brody Burke brought GHS to a tie in the second with a double to right field, earning the team's first RBI of the night.
The Red Elephants took a 3-1 lead in the third after Cohen Miller tripled to center scoring one before CJ Saudarg's sacrifice fly scored Miller.
All told, Gainesville had seven hits on the night with Burke, Miller, and Vaughn providing all the runs needed.
Silas Ingram earned the win for Gainesville, which committed no errors in the game, despite Peyton Osheaski starting and allowing just one run on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Red Elephants hit the road Wednesday for Game 2 against Johns Creek.
