Despite the massive changes that have occurred in all aspects of life since Gainesville football last left the state for a game more than 70 years ago, only one thing was different between that night in 1950 and Thursday night at Moody High School: Big Red won.
Led by Carmelo Byrd’s 114 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and a defense that barely bent and broke just once, Gainesville scored 21 third-quarter points as part of 31 unanswered to beat Moody 31-7 and move to 2-0 this season.
Next up, Westlake on Friday in a game that will be televised by Peachtree TV.
