A 13-run first inning gave Gainesville softball a lead it wouldn't relinquish in Big Red's season finale Monday at GHS.
On a night in which the program celebrated its three seniors Amberly Ayala, Brilee Keppinger, and Julia Payne, it was also able to celebrate a run-rule 22-7 win over Meadowcreek thanks to its future and a game-winning bunt by freshman Judea Hawks in the bottom of the third.
While Gainesville used its speed to its advantage; Ayala, Keppinger had five stolen bases and freshman Shya Barnett had four, the Red Elephants were also stomping at the plate amassing 12 hits in 20 at bats.
Winning pitcher Maya Silva led the way offensively as she went 3 for 3. Hawks, Finley O'Callaghan, and Payne each went 2 for 2 with O'Callaghan hitting two doubles and Hawks one.
Keppinger had two RBIs and three runs scored on the day while Ayala and Layanna Promise had to RBIs each. Silva, Hawks, and Payne contributed in the runs-batted-in column with one each.
In the win, Silva went the distance striking out four.
