BUFORD - The Red Elephants hit the track running during Day 1 of the Region 7-5A Track and Field Meet Monday at Seckinger High School.
Gainesville took home four gold medals, and qualified six more for the Class 5A State Track and Field Meet happening May 9-10 at Barron Stadium in Rome.
Big Red's region champions on the day included Judah Knight in the triple jump; Josabeth Graciano in the 1600 meters; the girls 4X200 relay team of Shanise Newton, Kyndal Cohen, Saniya Williams, and Sincere Cleveland; and the girls 4X800 relay team of Graciano, Josie Brosky, Arianny Hoyos, and Vanessa Torres (pictured, left to right).
Gainesville held podium places in four other events as the boys 4X200 took silver, Dacien Cohen won silver in the long jump, Grayson Hartman won bronze in the pole vault, and Shailyn Jones took bronze in the high jump.
Lastly, the Red Elephants qualified for state in the triple jump as Kharim Hughley took fourth, and the boys 4X800 relay, which also finished fourth.
The region meet concludes Wednesday at Seckinger.
